US poker sites - The first question players have is usually “Can I legally play online poker in the US?”. The answer is yes. A bill called the UIGEA was passed in 2006 regulating payments to and from online poker sites in the United States, but this bill applies to sites based outside the country and does not affect legal online poker sites within the United States. Playing online poker in the United States is not against the law.

If you have been playing poker at a local card room, at a home game, or just with family and friends, you know how much fun the game can be. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to play any time for any stakes you choose? You can get started playing online for free, play for pennies, or move up to the big games and win big money.

Play Free Poker Tournaments – The Best Sites for Freerolls in the US

A freeroll is a poker tournament with no entry fee. Online poker sites typically offer freerolls to get new customers to sign up and encourage players to enter their tournaments. The prize pool is usually fairly small, often less than $100 in freerolls on US facing poker sites, but if you enjoy playing poker and don’t have a lot of cash, free online tournaments are probably a good way for you to build your online poker bankroll.

Some sites offer new depositor freerolls. WSoP, 888 Poker, and Borgata Poker all offer excellent freerolls for new depositors. It is no surprise that these three sites also offer the best weekly freeroll schedules as well.

Top Five Things to Consider When Looking for the Best Online Poker Site.

1. Safety – Unlicensed online poker sites are a big risk. Some of the largest online poker rooms ever have gone broke and run off with their customers money. If you play on a licensed site in New Jersey or Nevada, you can feel safe knowing that your money is in a legitimate site.

2. Ease of Use – A site with good software and a simple sign up process makes life a lot easier.

3. Size of Player Pool – A very small site may not have the games you want to play.

4. Freerolls – An online poker site with a regular freeroll schedule gives you a great opportunity to build your bankroll for free.

5. Your Location – If you are lucky enough to live in a state where online poker is legal and regulated in the United States then you have excellent options.

US Online Poker Sites Ranked and Reviewed

We have ranked the “big three” regulated online poker sites on a scale of 1 to 10 for the first four considerations. This may help you choose which online poker site is best for you.

Safety – 9/10

This is one of the largest brands in poker, and it is owned by Caesars Entertainment, so your money is safe here. Since WSoP has not run an online poker site before, and Ceasars Corp stock isn’t very healthy, they only get nine of ten possible points.

Ease of Use – 8/10

While the software isn’t perfect, the interface is simple, and banking couldn’t be easier.

Size of Player Pool – 8/10

No regulated site in the United States has built up a large enough player pool to rate 10 out of 10 in this category, but WSoP is one of the largest sites and we expect them to grow significantly after the WSoP this summer in Vegas where they will be signing up thousands of players.

Freerolls – 8/10

WSoP offers a big freeroll for new depositors, as well as $100 freeroll every night at 7 pm.

Safety – 9/10

888 is not only regulated in the United States, but they have been around the online poker business for a long time. They aren’t a company based in the US, which is the only reason they aren’t rated 10/10

Ease of Use – 9/10

The software is good and the banking is easy. You can even deposit at a local 7/11!

Size of Player Pool – 5/10

We expect the player pool to climb over the coming year, but right now 888 does not have large prize pools in their tournaments or a large enough cash game selection to rate a higher ranking.

Freerolls – 6/10

888 offers the standard freeroll for new players, and a $100 freeroll every Sunday.

Safety – 10/10

Borgata is legal and regulated in New Jersey, and they are a hugely profitable casino. Your money is safe with the Borgata and the software is provided Party Poker so you know it’s safe.

Ease of Use – 6/10

The banking is easy and simple, and most people like the software, though it isn’t as reliable as the major competitors.

Size of Player Pool – 9/10

This network has lost a few players over the last few months, but they are still the largest legal site in the US and they have the largest prize pools in their tournaments. Cash games are plentiful compared to other sites.

Freerolls – 9/10

Borgata offers a nice freeroll schedule, with daily freerolls and a $1,000 freeroll every Sunday for new depositors.
